Disneyesque

What is Disneyesque? well on thefreedictionary.com they say Disneyesque is " reminiscent of the animatemd cartoons produced by Walt(er Elias) Disney, the US film producer (1901-66) or his studio"
From what I've read and watched i think Disneyesque is something that characters get given when Disney create and animate them. They usually have massive eyes, loveable faces that stand out, strange but rememable names and saying that kids will pick up very easily. An example of this is shown below -

I also think Disneyesque is aslo apart of anthropomorphism because the characters in all the films are given human characteristics. Animal's features are changed slightly, mostly in the face, making them look more friendly and visually pleasing. Inablitable objects are always given human characteristics like eyes, noses and mouths but sometimes theses features could be already be on the object but changed to look more like a human feature, like a cup handle becoming a nose, an example of this is below.

Political Animation Films

Aswel as the Animal Farm film i looked at earlier there are a few more political movies that use animation as a form.

When The Wind Blows - When The Wind Blows was created in 1986 by Jimmu Murakami, its all about nuclear war and is set in an old house with an old couple. The couple are the only characters in the film and they are trying to decide which leaflet to go from, one by the government or the one sent by the council, they are very unprepared for nuclear war and the information on the leaflets wouldn't help if a nuclear bomb went off. They end up putting a mattress up against the wall with all there supply's under it. Then a nuclear bomb  goes off and damages abit of there house and things get smashed and when the film comes to an end they slowly die from the radiation.

Waltz With Bashir - This film was made by a guy called Ari Folman and is all about a guy who loses his memory after the war and he goes back and talks to friends and soldiers to try and piece his memory back together. Most of the names and faces are changed and sometimes they are in darkness to stop them being recognized and im sure the voices have been changed also.

Special Delivery

Special Delivery was made in 1978 by John Weldon, it won a national film award in Canada. Special Delivery is all about a couple that are living in a house. The wife tells the husband to de-ice the front steps before the postman comes but he doesnt and when he comes back he finds the postman dead on the stairs. He carrys him into his house and puts him on a chair. He then takes the postmans clothes and does he round for him because he thinks if the police come they will know it was him because the people that lived before him had there post  but the people that live after him didnt. So he does his round for him and then comes back to his house and forgets that his keys are in his jeans pocket so trys to get into his house through a window. At this point the police go by his house and see him and think hes trying to break in, so they arrest him but he doesnt stay in jail for long as the post office pay for his bail. The wife then comes home and finds the dead postman on the chair and we find out that she had slept with him before hand and we see what she thinks thats happened so she runs away. Then the husband gets home and takes the body back to his postmans flat and puts him in bed and a couple of days later the doctors say he died in his sleep and the man gets away with it and has no nagging wife anymore.
I really liked this film, the animation wasnt the best but it the storyline was which helped it alot. It had alot of funny parts in the film which kept me interested in the piece and i can see why it won a film award.

Genres

There are two types of genre that films can be put in, theses are Genres of Order and Genres of Integration.
The types of films that fall into Genres of Order are Westerns, Gangsta, Sci-fi etc.Any film where there's a good and bad guy, good vs evil.
The types of film that fall into Genres of Integration are Musicals, melo-drama, romcoms etc. Any film where there are couples and emotional scenes.

Anthropomorphism Films

Clip - The Old Mill - The Old Mill was created in 1937 and its all about a storm hitting an old mill where loads of animals live. The storm batters the mill and water seeps through and a birds eggs get put in danger when some rope snaps and it looks like they are going to get crushed. The film had alot of meaning to it as the war was raging on and i think it meant that America would stand up to anything and come out still standing, just like the old mill.

Clip - The Sorcerer's Apprentice - The Sorcerer's Apprentice was also made in 1937, originally called fantasia, it stars Mickey Mouse and he is told to clean up but he is very lazy and see's the sorcerer's hat and he puts it on and makes a broom go up the stairs n collect water, but it all goes wrong when he cant stop the broom  so resorts to chopping it up but that also doesn't go to plan as the 2 halves of the broom become two brooms. Mickey Mouse then goes mental and chops them brooms up and  before he knows it, he has an army of brooms going up and down the stairs collecting water n pouring it into the sorcerer's pot. The place soon turns into an ocean with waves crashing against the walls and in the end the sorcerer wakes up and stops the brooms and then makes Mickey Mouse clean up all the mess he's made. The meaning behind the film i think is not to be lazy and find short cuts.

Clip - Dumbo - Dumbo was created in 1941, its all about a baby elephant in the circus that has extremely big ears and all the other animals take the mickey out of him. At the start of the film dumbo always falls over his big ears but in the end he uses them to fly through the air to save everyone. Dumbo was the first film Disney did that was abit out there, it was very psychedelic with bright colours and odd moments which disney made these moments seem like dreams to get away with it.

Clip - Animal Farm - Made in 1954 by Halas and Batchelor, it was all  about the Russian Revolution but they based it on the farm as it would of been interpreted as treason. The main characters in the film are real people in the revolution, like the  generals and leaders that lead it and  the other farm animals are the citizens of Russia. The animals break into the food storage and start eating everything because at the time the russians had they food rationed by the government. The farmer then goes to see what all the noise is about n then gets attacked by the animals. He then gets all his friends to storm his farm but the animals are prepared and fight back, the humans end up losing and leave the farm but some of the animals get injured in the fight. The film follows the book exactly  so its more of an visual aid than a movie.

Its all about a snowman trying to escape his snow globe to hang out with with the 'hot' doll and all her friends that are having fun on the shelf. he trys everything to escape, from using dynamite to using a power drill. In the end he end up falling off the shelf in his snow globe and as he's falling he finds an exit on the floor and climbs out. He lands in a fish bowl where he finds another doll that he likes but as he swims to her the snow globe falls on him n he's again trapped in it trying to get out. This film was all done in CGI - Computer Generated Images.

Anthropomorphism And The "1st" Animation Film

Anthropomorphism is when objects and animals are given human characteristics, which Disney did alot in all there films.

Mickey Mouse is thought to be the 1st animated character but in fact it Alice In Cartoonland came before Mickey  Mouse in 1923.

UB Iworks was the guy who actually drew Mickey Mouse As Walt Disney Couldn't, but they did invent the multiplaying camera which had 3 layers, background, middle and foreground, to give there animation more depth than rival company's. Steam boat willie came out in 1928 but Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs is considered the "1st" featured film.

Max Fleischer - Popeye
Otto Messmer - Felix The Cat       All these were rivals to Walt Disney
George Herriman  - Krazy Kat

                          - They also had shows that were people telling stories

Eadweard Muybridge - In 1873 he used sequential photography to show movement, like the jumping man

Clip- Humorous Phases Of Funny Faces By Stuart Blackten - Made in 1906 it was the first real animation film.

Clip- Winsor McCay - Made in 1911, he also was famous for his 'Little Nemo' for a magazine that he did on rice paper, which is like tracing paper.
